Power Rankings Scoring Methodology

A performance-based scoring system powered by Sports Power Infrastructure

The Sports Power Rankings scoring system evaluates individual athletes across four core categories: physical ability, learning and career exposure, personal development, and verified coaching oversight. Each category is weighted toward a 100-point maximum score.

This data-driven model ensures fair comparisons by age and gender, promotes development beyond the field, and supports real-world alignment with schools, employers, and brand partners.

Category I: Speed, Strength & Agility

→ 30% of Total Score

Athletes are evaluated across four standardized drills:

Drill | Measurement

  • 40-Yard Dash | Time (seconds)

  • Vertical Jump | Height (inches)

  • Push-Ups (1 min) | Repetitions

  • Shuttle Run | Time (seconds)

Scoring Method:

  1. Athlete results are compared against percentile benchmarks by age and gender.

  2. Each drill receives a percentile score (0–100%).

  3. Average of the four scores is calculated.

  4. Final average is multiplied by 0.30 to reflect this category’s weight.

Example Calculation:

  • 40-Yard Dash: 70th percentile

  • Vertical Jump: 60th percentile

  • Push-Ups: 80th percentile

  • Shuttle Run: 75th percentile
    Average = (70 + 60 + 80 + 75) ÷ 4 = 71.25
    Score = 71.25 × 0.30 = 21.38 points

Category II: Education & Industry Awareness

→ 30% of Total Score

This category assesses exposure to and interest in career, industry, and academic development.

Scoring Method:

  • 30 points awarded for completing the Sports Power Discovery Assessment
    (a 50-question tool measuring awareness of academic paths, workforce interests, and industry exposure).

  • Responses are used to identify support needs, align opportunities, and signal commitment to learning.

  • 0 points if assessment is not completed.

This category connects athletes with real-world opportunities and helps align their pathway with relevant education or workforce tracks.

Category III: Leadership, Learning & Resilience

→ 30% of Total Score

This category measures social-emotional development, leadership, and coachability.

Scoring Method:

  • 30 points awarded for verified participation in one or more of the following:

    • Leadership roles (e.g., team captain, club leader, peer mentor)

    • Overcoming adversity or life challenges

    • Community engagement, volunteering, or public speaking

    • Learning style/cognitive assessments (e.g., social-emotional or communication assessments)

  • Verification methods: video, testimonials, coach/school submission, or proof of completion.

Yes = 30 points. No = 0 points.

Category IV: Licensed Coach Verification

→ 10% of Total Score

This category validates physical performance through an official coaching source.

Scoring Method:

  • 10 points awarded when combine results (Speed, Strength & Agility) are verified by a Sports Power Infrastructure Licensed Coach.

  • 0 points if data is self-reported only.

This ensures integrity and builds a national network of trusted sports development professionals.

Final Score = 100 Points Maximum
